IDENTIKIT

Most Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology laboratories now have two mainframe analyzers for each discipline and two 'backup' analyzers for each discipline. They are usually instruments from the same manufacturer but the main frame analyzers are the high volume analyzers and the backup analyzers are a lower volume analyzer.

The challenge of this scenario is to keep the each analyzer of two pairs of analyzers adjusted in such a way that regardless of which analyzer a specimen is put onto the results from either will be identical.

This is not possible in the real world but the results from the same specimen analyzed on the two analysers must be within acceptable analytical and clinical limits. MEDLABSTATS has developed a piece of software - IDENTIKIT - which processes the paired results from two biochemistry analyzers and assesses them against predetermined acceptable limits of difference. The results are presented to the user as a 'traffic light' colour coded table viewable in a web browser ; see below.

The colour coding is such that when the results are different by a very acceptable difference of '1x' then the background is green.

When the results are different by a less acceptable difference of between '1x' and '2x' then the background is yellow.

When the results are different by an unacceptable difference of more than '2x' then the background is red.

This program can be adapted very easily to any paired instrumental systems, eg two blood gas machine - one in the main pathology lab and one in the casualty department, two haematology analyzers - one in the main lab and one in your branch lab etc. The only variables that would have to be tuned to your particular situation are the tolerance limits - the values of 1x for each analyte - that you feel are desirable and achievable for your particular laboratory operation.

IDENTIKIT is a application ideally suited to running over the internet where you have the two instruments in question located at two physically separate sites. Provided you have internat access at both sites each lab can submit their daily 'correlation' specimen data and get feedback in realtime as to how well they are agreeing today with the instrument in their other lab.

Please contact tom@medlabstats.com if you would like to have a demonstration relevant to your lab's requirements.
